Changing Briefs

I've decided to change my live brief from the MAG one to Hookworms as I kept sitting down to work on the brief and having a total brain block which is really not something I experience often. I usually find that if I'm experiencing low motivation during a project then the more I push through it the more motivated I become, but during this project I've realised I'm just not interested in the subject matter. Even when I visited the gallery although some of the art is lovely I didn't find any element of it particularly inspiring.

I also realised when I started considering my initial responses for this project, I don't think my practise naturally appeals to younger, child audiences. I found it really challenging and impossible to think of any ideas or outcomes that didn't feature the nude statues or the strange modern art from the gallery which to me was the most interesting and inspiring part but possibly wouldn't appeal or be acceptable for children. It also seems unfair to me that then winner would receive £200 but then their designs would be available for MAG to use for the rest of time. It just seems like a lot of work for not a huge pay off.

I've decided to switch to the Hookworms brief as not only is it more streamline and fits perfectly into our 3 week window to complete these live briefs but is also much more of the kind of brief I can see myself completing in my personal career. Its fun, immediately excited me and I went crazy doodling thumbnails straight away. I think it suits my practise more than the other briefs do in its lightheartedness and I can see that the final outcome will most likely be something slightly funny and very decorative.
